The Lake of Fire will be the eternal abode of Satan, his demons, and all who rejected God’s provision for sin. Fire is often used by the Holy Spirit (in the Bible) to refer to judgment. Probably not a literal lake of fire, existence there will evoke the knowledge of God’s wrath and judgment. Jesus spoke of the eternal fire as being created for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). Jude, the brother of Christ, in his New Testament letter condemns sexual immorality and compares the fire that destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah to the eternal fire awaiting the immoral (Jude 1:7). The Apostle John explicitly confirms Satan’s destiny in Revelation 20:10, “And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”
It is interesting to note that the beast and false prophet referred to in the above Scripture had been consigned to the lake of fire one thousand years prior to the time that Satan is said to have joined them. Therefore we may conclude that the Lake of Fire does not speak of an end of existence, but rather an eternal existence in a place of divine judgment where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 13:36-43).
The Bible assures us that in the end, God will right every wrong and justice will be served. Satan will be stopped, locked and sentenced for eternity. Satan, his demons, and all unbelievers who rejected God’s provision for sin (the Blood and Righteousness of Jesus Christ) will share the same eternal destiny, the Lake of Fire.
